I was just noticing that this is really out of date. For those still interested and reading this, the compatability for these devices has drastically improved since this original article and there is great support for many applications including Blender now.

Some of the older serial devices from these guys (often rebadged for HP, SGI, IBM, etc) has documented protocols and support on linux. Alas, still no Blender support, even there. However, with a documented protocol, it should be possible to add blender support and even do it on the Mac (using a $15 USB->RS232 dongle).

Crap, that's disappointing. Maybe the fact that Logitech went Mac-compatible with the NuLOOQ is a promising sign?

I played with these at siggraph the 3D connexion devices... They are very nice units, but no Mac drivers. The salesman/booth guy I spoke with lamented the fact, but said the market wasnt large enough.

There is however an SDK, but im not going to even go there.

Anyway, just a heads up, as they arent as compatible as the logictch gear.
