I just picked up a portable DVD player for AU$160 (US$125ish) which has both composite video in and out, so it can be used as a portable monitor or a player, plugged into the IN and OUT of a vision mixer and switched between the two. I'm sure the guality is extremely questionable, but the price is right: three of these is less than half the price of an integrated multi-monitor system and has the advantage of playing DVDs as well!
