This reminds me of some old magazines a family member had from USA in the 1950's. Lots of assumptions about "kitchen of the future" and of course the futuristic big ass cars with odd curves and motorised automatic mechanical everything. It was so clear to the artists, designers and writers of the time that their assumptions were on a straight line of the development of industry in their era.

I don't think we will truly move to centralised application access/subscription based system.
People like to own things and as Peter mentions, the mutant bug people will be breaking through our lines of defense. No time to sell a new distribution and sales model if you leg is being gnawed off.

The internet is serious business.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I like the idea, I have to agree with Wuzzle here, I live in the U.S. and we dont have WiFi everywhere here, and I'm always on the road, this will pretty much kill my ability (as a freelance designer) to work from anywhere, meaning that I would have no use for laptop computer anymore, going back to desktop on regular office. Either that or I will be running CS3 when every print shop in town is demanding "CS12 mega-extended Pro" files only.

I think in the future might be a solution, but only when (and if) wi-fi is easy to access all over the planet.

I can see it happening in some limited capacity, maybe for certain apps, but frankly with the rate of bandwidth growth in the US, I don't see it happening or being all that successful.

I have the same speed on my cable modem now that I had in 1999 (about 6mbps). My workplace has even shittier bandwidth than that! That doesn't bode well for the bandwidth that'd be necessary for running After Effects through a browser in 2017.

I see a couple reasons for this.

- They don't have to code multiple versions anymore. Simply leave it up to the platforms to have a compatible browser and that's that. Adds Linux and the more 'esoteric' platforms without any extra work on Adobe's part.

- Another attempt at Protection. Granted the bored kiddies will find a way around it, but you likely won't get code updates easily. (rant) Companies should realize that dongles don't work. Code/counter code techniques don't work. All protection schemes end up broken and sadly, most online before the 2nd day its shipped. Those who will buy, buy and those who won't, will simply not so the argument that there is loss is in error. Some unnamed companies spend more time on protection than they spend on doing quality checks. More oft than not, it only affects the legal owners. (/rant)

Do I approve? No. We don't have WiFi everywhere here. I don't want to be connected all the time to be able to use my applications. If they really do go this way it will push me to either never upgrade again, or find another solution. I love Photoshop so this would truly suck.
