for a second i thought the shift to intel chipsets would make macs more linux accessible, but then they have to go with ATI... everyone knows nvidia has MCUH superior linux driver support... but then again maybe i'm just drunk posting ;-) at least intel knows how to make a half-decent onboard GPU

I believe the 8800GT is finally available, and I'd definitely suggest going with that since that is about as good as it gets at the moment.

maybe someone here can give me some advice on which graphic card suits my needs. I am about to order the new mac pro.
I use it with a two 30 inch displays. My main activities: editing in fcp , motion , after effects and vj ing with tactic pro , arkaos and U&I , i also plan to do 3d with cinema 4d in the future. Will the 2600 be enough? I plan to put in two 2600 s . But the options that are availalable make ,e doubt if this is the right choice.

Any graphics card expert with a good advice?

I'm way too much of a nerd to ever buy Apple. My idea of an iPod is some custom firmware player by Cowon. My Mac Pro cost under $1,000, sits in a rackmount case, and is a Core 2 Duo with an 8800GTS that runs Modul8, I've been planning on doing dual-quad for a while now as well, there's just not much right now that utilizes all the cores.
