Edirol V-8 US Pricing Announced: Under Two Grand

v8

We’ve got some additional details on the Edirol V-8 mixer. Pricing will be set at US$1995 list. For comparison, the V-4 lists for US$1029, but has a street price pretty close to that — perhaps due to the unit’s popularity rather than any minimum advertised pricing restrictions.

The V-8 is shipping within a month. I’ll make sure CDMotion is high on the list as far as evaluation units. While I hear the criticisms — and some of you have moved beyond hardware mixing or now rely on high definition signal — there’s very little that can outclass the V-8 for what it is in the same price range. If it delivers, it could easily remove the justification for buying a V-4, even at half the price. Watch for our hands-on report.

Well, a bit pricier than I hoped (I know, I say that a lot) - I was hoping for around $1500 street, which seems unlikely, at least for now.

One way to look at this - which is more valuable, one V-8 or two V-4s? Looks like they’ll shake out to around the same cost.

Yeah, I was also hoping for that street, but I’m guessing it’ll be closer to list given the V-4’s history.

Well, I’ll be testing them somewhere we have two V-4’s — so I think a “one V-8 versus two V-4’s” contest is indeed in order. ;)

Finally, VGA in… I’ve been waiting for that way too long.

I’m hoping to get a test unit from Roland Aust very soon, I’ll be very interested to see the details on the VGA in, hope they learnt from the V-5 and have allowed over scanning on it.

I think it would have to be taller just to fit in the extra jacks it’s got … but of course we’ll be doing side-by-side photos with the V4. I’d do the KrossFour too had I managed to acquire one before they were all wiped from the face of the earth. ;)

the most interesting thing about this unit is that finally ALL the jacks are on the back where they belong instead of on the top, and that its finally bnc… 8 inputs? the vixid has 16… and its matrixable.. i guess a lot of vga junkies will be happy, and to all the people spewing hate that its not HD yet… stop dreaming. HD mixers with larger than pal ntsc res are years away for low cost vj’ing. still happy with my upscaled 320×240, hell yeah :)
