The Mostly Complete History of VJing: Jean Poole Back Catalogue on skynoise

By Jaymis

CDM friend and deep thinking visualist Jean Poole has been migrating a swathe of articles from a defunct web host, and some great interviews and reviews have bubbled to the surface:

Jean Poole - History of VJing

VJ related Software reviews :
Comprehensive overview of VJ Software in 2004 with screenshots, interviews, smaller VJ software round-up in 2005, vdmx 2, VDMXX 4.0, Grid Pro Vs Arnold Schwarzenegger, v-track, Arkaos video sampler, Arkaos VJ 3, Wildform Flix, Isadora, Livid 1.1

There’s some fantastic material there, much of which is still exceedingly relevant. Be careful, it will be easy to lose your day to reminiscing for the old days of Motion Dive and VDMXX, and longing again to see Arnold Schwarzenegger’s epic battle with Grid Pro.

Machine Project is the wonderful gallery / multimedia educational center and maker of happenings in Los Angeles. (Just make sure you hire professionals if they’re going to do something dangerous, like jump out of a window. And don’t stare into the sun.)

First up: Los Angeleans, you have a chance to film a Matrix-style effect with a stunt man jumping out a window:

Weekend Reader Link Roundup: Global VJ Map, Australian AV DVD, VJ Publication -

Here’s a couple of links which were sent in by CDMo readers over the weekend:

Zac pointed out the Frappr VJ Map, showing visualists from all around the planet.

Kat sent through an email from Timon, who is working on a VJ publication entitled VisualJockey (and is looking for submissions).

Finally, Mitchell is sending through a copy of the Synchresis DVD, although considering it’s a Creative Commons project, perhaps it could be posted on a nice online video hosting service. Physical media aside, Mitchell has a lot to say about the project.
